Dementia is a general term that refers to a progressive decline in intellectual ability characterize
Redirection can be an effective all-purpose tool for responding to many of the bothersome, inappropriate, or potentially unsafe behaviors of individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Our professional caregivers and nurses are extensively trained and familiar with redirection techniques, and can effectively deploy redirection when it is most appropriate. We are trained to ensure redirection is done with a calm, friendly, and empathetic tone.
To keep the brain active, people with dementia should engage in at least 30 minutes a day of cognitive activities. In the early stages, our professional caregivers help encourage stimulation with crossword puzzles, trivia games, Sudoku, or computer-based brain games like Lumosity. In later stages, we will help you engage with a variety of techniques, including pointing out colors in a picture book, sorting objects by size or color, or counting playing cards. The possibilities are endless. Our professional caregivers are trained to use “queuing” techniques by using your name and showing you how to do something by guiding their hands.
Socialization is extremely valuable, but quality visits are more important than the quantity. Our professional caregivers will manage and encourage a plan of socialization to ensure you feel both connected and that you have a sense of purpose. We will encourage phone calls, Skype and letters (written in a large, bold font) as terrific ways to engage with loved ones without a physical family visit. In addition, our professional caregiver will directly engage with you in the comfort of your own home.
Prevent the physical and mental health risks linked to social isolation with one-on-one positive interactions from a friendly, highly educated and engaging social companion.
